How to Jump Start a Car

Make sure that the vehicles are parked close enough to each other so the jumper cables will reach both batteries. The car that is providing the jump should be shut off.

Clamp one of the ends to the jumper cable onto the battery of the car that is providing the jump. First post the positive clamp to the positive battery post. Each of the positives will be red. Then connect the negative clamp to the negative battery post. These will both be black.

Now you want to connect the other clamps to your car's dead battery. Make sure the clamps do not touch each other. You also want to use the same technique as before and hook the positives up first and then connect the negative.

You can now start the car that is doing the jumping and allow to let it run for 5-10 minutes to charge your battery.

Shut the car off and re start it to make sure your car will start.

Remove the negative clamp of the car that is receiving the jump with out it touching the other clamp. After you removed the negative you remove the positive.

Using the same order as you just did, remove the other cables from the car providing the jump.
