It's highly unlikely you've corrupted the drive, since you can't cancel the update once it's started installing.If it won't turn off, Try to hold the button down until it resets its self, if it won't you'll have to cut its power, and doesn't damage it (which is shouldn't). Either unplug it, or if its a fat (old shiney one) just switch it off at the back. This isn't exactly healthy for the ps3, but if it's froze you have no chance, I've had to do this in the past. OF COURSE IT IS SAFE. PROBLEMS OCCUR WHEN YOU TURN OF YOUR PS3 WHILE DOWNLOADING. FILES GET CORRUPTED. SO, IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE DOWNLOAD, MAKE SURE TO CANCEL IT FIRST BEFORE SWITCHING OFF YOUR CONSOLE.
