How Did Martin Luther Die
Martin Luther, the German monk, who wrestled salvation from Catholicism, died on February 18, 1546.
Luther’s health began a gradual decline about 15 years before his death. He suffered from vertigo, fainting, tinnitus, and cataracts. Kidney and bladder stones as well as arthritis were also among his ailments. In December 1544, he began to feel the effects of angina. On February 17, 1546, Luther experienced chest pains, which sent him to his bed. At a little after 1 A.M., he was awakened with more chest pains. He suffered an apoplectic stroke later that night. Final a little past 2:30 A.M., Luther succumbed. He was 62 years old. He died in the town of Eisleben, his birth city.
