Question
NASCAR fatalities...?
I've heard that when jd mcduffie died at the glen in 91, when he crashed, that he died on impact instantly, and that his head was partially torn off, and when Russell Phillips died in 1995 at Texas, that the impact was so hard he died on impact too, but his head was with the helmet rolling on the track. Does anyone know what happened or if this is true?

Answer
.....True on the Phillips, and as others have said changes were made. ...JD did hit the wall and went airborne taking out Jimmy Means in a violent hit.Part of JD's helmet was found several feet away at the wall. The helmet may have been damaged and the violent impact broke it in half. This lead to the inspecting of the helmets at all races.
